PESHAWAR, October 3: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has said it is ready to hold the local government elections in November and that the Election Commission should also make necessary arrangements towards this end.
After the cabinet meeting on 2 October, Information Minister Mr Mushtaq Ghani said they had amended the Local Government Act to ensure that the local government elections are held using biometric system.
The minister said the provincial government had set up 3300 constituencies in the entire province but added that the Election Commission had the authority to decide this finally.
Previously the Election Commission had said it was not possible to hold local government elections for some time and the Supreme Court had decried this decision of the Commission.
A few days ago the Election Commission said installation of machinery for holding the local government elections on biometric system would require at least two years time.
