PESHAWAR, 24 November: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to take action against those district health officers who do not execute anti-polio immunization campaign in their respective districts successfully.

The decision was made in a high level meeting regarding polio eradication that held here on Tuesday with provincial health minister Shahram Khan Tarakai in the chair.

“Now action will be taken against high officials of the concerned district instead of taking actions against polio workers,” the minister warned.

The minister said it is government foremost priority to uproot the crippling disease from the province by the end of the next year.

He asked the concerned officials to use the services of local religious scholars and elected representatives in persuading those parents who refused to administer anti polio drops.

It was also decided in the meeting to re-register all those under-five years old children in 50 union councils of Peshawar where all the target population had not been immunized.
