PESHAWAR, 9 July: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ehtesab Commission has arrested Provincial Minister for Mines and Minerals Ziaullah Afridi for misuse of authority and corruption charges, while the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has arrested former provincial minister Mehmood Zeb.
The KP Ehtesab Commission says despite ban, Mr Afridi issued tenders of extracting minerals according to his own choice. The accused is associated with the ruling Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI).
KP Information Minister Mushtaq Ghani said no decision on taking back the ministry from Mr Afridi has been made yet. However, he said, the PTI is pondering the matter.
On the other hand, the NAB has arrested ex-mines and minerals minister Mehmood Zeb of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Bannu Commissioner Asmatullah Gandapur and eight other accused on charges of corruption. These officials also face allegations of illegal mining due to which the national exchequer suffered a loss of Rs360 million.
