PESHAWAR, 27 June: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police have suggested the Home and Tribal Affairs Department to increase the number of polling booths for fresh elections on 365 polling stations.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced to hold fresh polling on 365 polling stations after receiving reports of mismanagement. The fresh polling would be held on July 5.

In an official letter sent to the home department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police (IGP) Nasir Khan Durrani stated that lack of adequate polling booths was one of the major reasons of mismanagement in the local bodies elections held on May 30.

The provincial police chief also suggested erecting tents for voters to brave the hot weather besides installing close-circuit cameras to put a check on rigging in election.

The IGP also directed the district police officers to deputed 15-20 policemen at every polling station and no contestant should be allowed to hold public meeting without getting prior permission from the police station concerned.
