PESHAWAR: A special meeting of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet was convened on Friday to discuss law and order situation in the province in the wake of changing security situation in the neighbouring Afghanistan.
The meeting convened by Chief Minister Mahmood Khan was attended by all provincial ministers, chief secretary, Inspector General Police (IGP) Moazzam Jah and officials of all concerned departments. The meeting discussed the possible effects of the security situation in Afghanistan on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the coherent strategy of KP Police.
The cabinet assured full support to the Police Department and said that all the requirements of the police force would be fulfilled on priority while utilising all available resources.
The meeting decided to strengthen the police force to cope with any challenging situation while the divisional commissioners and regional police officers were directed to chalk out a comprehensive plan to strengthen the police system in their respective regions.
The cabinet expressed satisfaction over the preparedness of police to cope with any emergency situation and appreciated the sacrifices of police officials for maintaining peace in the region. The meeting noted that KP Police always demonstrated exemplary performance in difficult times and hoped that in future the police force would come up to the expectations of the government and masses.
The cabinet said that protection of lives and properties of masses was top most responsibility of the government and it would not show any leniency in this regard.
Last week, KP police chief Moazzam Jah while talking to journalists in Peshawar said that the provincial government was keeping a close watch on the evolving situation in Afghanistan.
The police chief said KP Police was prepared for any kind of situation amid the evolving situation across the border and its possible impacts on Pakistani side.
The KP police chief said fencing of border with Afghanistan was continuing smoothly. He said lessons have been learnt from past experience, and border fencing will help a lot in managing the movement of people on both sides of the border.
Moazzam Jah said the morale of KP Police is high and it is fully prepared to protect life and property of citizens.
