PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa relief and rehabilitation department has banned the use of plastic bags in all its office in the province on Wednesday.
A notification was issued in this regard providing that plastic bags are polluting our environment and choking the drainage system, therefore as a first step, no one will be allowed to use plastic bags in the offices of KP relief departments.
“The plastic bags are made of hazardous chemical elements that remain alive for 700 years,” said the notification. “Its use has become very common in the country and no proper strategy is available to dispose it of in a proper manner.” As a result, said that the notification, it is polluting the environment and create numerous problems for city dwellers.
It was further maintained that after its use, people usually discard the plastic bags and other such materials directly into the drainage lines and it is one of the main reasons that during the rains, the drainage lines flood onto the streets of the city. “It not only affects the free flow of traffic but also creates problems for the business community in the city,” the notification maintained.
Keeping these issues insight, the secretary relief and rehabilitation department has directed that no one will be allowed to use plastic bags in its offices, included the offices of Rescue 1122 emergency service, Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and the offices of Civil defence. The officials of these departments were directed to use bio-degradable bags, paper made bag or clothes made bags to keep the environment clean.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has already imposed a ban on the use of plastic bags in the province and several notifications were issued to stop its manufacturing in the province. However, despite orders, the government has failed to implement it in a proper manner.
