PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has recorded 1,177 more coronavirus cases and 23 deaths during the last 24 hours.

This is the fifth consecutive day that KP has recorded over 1,000 coronavirus cases. With the new cases, the total number of infections reported so far has reached to 91,439, and the death toll stands at 2,440.

The actual number of infections is believed to be much more higher than official figures as many people still opt against going for corona tests. Out-patient departments of different public sector and private hospitals are daily visited by a large number of patients with throat infections, body pain, fever and other symptoms like corona. However, patients in first place try to recover with routine medicines of fever and infections.

Only in case of serious health condition or compulsions, patients go for corona tests and the positivity rate is increasing rapidly. The main reason behind not going for corona tests is that its charges are on higher side.

Overall in Pakistan, as many as 81 more deaths due to coronavirus have been reported during the last 24 hours.

According to latest data issued by National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), 5,020 new positive cases have been reported in the country after conducting tests of 55,605 people. At present, there are 60,072 active corona cases in the country.

The overall death toll in Pakistan due to coronavirus has now climbed to 14,778, while 613,058 patients have recovered from the disease.

Pakistan has also reported 3,367 coronavirus recoveries during the last 24 hours. The total number of recoveries has risen to 613,058, while the recovery rate is 89.1 percent.

In another alarming development, the NCOC head Asad Umar said in a tweet that on Saturday there were 3,468 corona patients on critical care in Pakistan. “This is the highest number since COVID started. The need for strong enforcement of SOPs is vital. Please take precautions and cooperate with administration in their enforcement efforts,” he said.

In another tweet, he came with update and said the actual number of patients in critical care is 3,568, not 3,468.
