PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday reported the highest number of coronavirus cases in a single day, which set the alarm bells ringing for the provincial government.

The death toll from COVID-19 in KP has reached 661 as 19 new deaths were reported on Saturday. According to latest data shared by the KP Health Department, as many as 1,035 new cases were confirmed in the province during the last 24 hours, taking the tally to 17,450. The new cases included 27 those who returned to KP via international flights. Out of 19 new deaths, five have been reported in Peshawar, four in Nowshera, two each in Kohat and Orakzai and one each in Hangu, Malakand, Lower Dir, Mardan, Mohmand and Battagram.

Peshawar remains the most affected district of KP with 340 deaths, more than half of the total death toll in the province. The total confirmed cases in the metropolis have reached 6,179, including 328 fresh cases during the last 24 hours.

According to official data, Swat remains the second most affected district with 54 deaths, Mardan has reported 37 deaths, Abbottabad has reported 31 deaths, Nowshera reported 26, Malakand reported 23, Bajaur reported 22, Kohat reported 18, Swabi reported 13, Battagram reported 11 and Lower Dir has reported 18 deaths. The death toll in other districts of KP is in single digit figure.

The districts of Tank, North Waziristan, South Waziristan, Lower Kohistan, Upper Kohistan, Torghar, Upper Chitral and Lower Chitral haven’t reported any coronavirus death so far, according to official data.

Countrywide death toll reaches 2,627

Death toll from COVID-19 in Pakistan has mounted to 2,627.

As many as 661 deaths have been reported in KP, 969 in Punjab, 816 in Sindh, 83 in Balochistan, 16 in Gilgit-Baltistan, 71 in Islamabad Capital Territory and 11 in Azad Kashmir.

The total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Pakistan have mounted to 138,378.

Of these, 51,518 have been reported in Sindh, 52,601 in Punjab, 17,450 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 8,028 in Balochistan, 7,163 in Islamabad Capital Territory, 1,044 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 574 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

As many as 50,056 patients have recovered from the virus in Pakistan.
