HANGU, 04 July: Internally-displaced persons (IDPs) of the central Kurram have complained that they were uprooted from their native areas four year ago, but hitherto they were not provided with any kind of food or cash assistance.
The displaced people belong to Chinarak, Sadarkot, Zawah, Sparkeet and Tarai areas. Talking to TNN, they said that military operation was launched in their areas four years back, forcing them to shift to Tora Warai and Doaba areas of Hangu district. They said that they were not even provided with tents, adding that they were never given ration by the government.
They demanded of the government to treat them the way the IDPs of Waziristan and Khyber tribal agencies are being treated. We should also be given cash assistance for our damaged houses, they said.
“We were displaced four-and-a-half years ago and since then we’re living in rented houses. We don’t have any camp and other facilities including ration. We should also be given the same facilities which were given to the IDPs of Waziristan and Khyber tribal agencies. We want justice. So far we did not receive any assistance besides our problems were not properly highlighted in the media,” they said.
On the other hand, political administration said that the survey of the damaged houses of central Kurram would be conducted after Ramazan and IDPs would be given assistance in light of the proposed survey.
