LANDIKOTAL: The youth of Landikotal sub-division of Khyber tribal district have expressed resentment over appointment of a naib qasid (peon) on a vacant post in violation of rules and merit.
The local youth said while talking to TNN that the post of naib qasid in the Civil Defence Department in Khyber district was given to a person from Bara tehsil, while the youth of Landikotal had right on this post.
The Khyber Youth Forum head Bakht Ali Shah Afridi told TNN that the post was given to a person without advertisement, test or interview. He said appointment on the post in violation of merit comes under the definition of corruption, therefore, the matter should be probed.
The youth from Landikotal said they remained unaware about the vacant post as it was not advertised anywhere. They alleged that the seat allocated for the youth of Landikotal was given to a man from Bara sub-division, which was violation of merit and rules.
Director Civil Defence Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Waheedul Haq, when contacted, told TNN that the post of naib qasid was not confined for any sub-division and anyone from the whole Khyber district was eligible for this post. He said only one post of naib qasid was vacant and the department did not have the money for advertising it in newspapers.
However, Bakht Ali Shah Afridi did not agree with this argument. He said merit should be followed whiter there was one vacancy of more. He said violation of merit could not be tolerated and the matter should be investigated.

The protesting workers said gas supply has been suspended to the factory for the last one month due to which they are losing their jobs. They said no gas supply means low production and less tax for the government. They said the factory plants may close due to unavailability of gas and workers may be sacked from their jobs.
