LANDI KOTAL, 12 April: The Pakistani and Afghan authorities have banned the entry of people without visa on the Torkham border after which large number of people have been stranded on either side of the border.

Thousands of people are crossing the border on daily basis, majority of them are Afghan refugees who enter Pakistan without any legal visa.

The Pakistani authorities held several meetings with their Afghan counterparts and decided to make visa mandatory for people crossing the border.

“A large number of people have gathered on either side of the border seeking a visa-free entry while the authorities on both sides are refusing passage to them,” said an eyewitness.

There were unconfirmed reports that two patients – a woman and minor girl – died while ten others fainted due to congestion.

A number of trucks carrying goods were also stranded on the border, an official said.

Later, high ups of the security forces visited the border and relaxed the border for the stranded people.
