PESHAWAR, 6 May: Election symbols were allotted to candidates in most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for the local bodies polls yesterday.
However, the allotment of symbols in some districts has been halted till today over reservations by many candidates on their symbols. Many candidates gathered in front of the deputy commissioner office in Peshawar yesterday and chanted slogans over allotment of inappropriate election symbols.
The protesting candidates complained that local traditions were completely disregarded while allotting election symbols. They added that some symbols are even indecent. They expressed strong reservations over allotment of symbols like carrot, banana, radish and rat etc.
“A large number of professional people are contesting the polls and they deserve good election symbols according to their stature in the society. They have allotted symbols like bottle, hanger etc. If an educated person gets bottle as election symbol then it is very inappropriate and unjust,” a protesting candidate told TNN.
“They have allotted symbols like carrot and radish. We will like to request them to change these symbols,” another candidate said.
