PESHAWAR, 1 June: A large number of candidates of the local bodies polls and other people held a protest demonstration against alleged rigging in Peshawar and Dera Ismail Khan today.
The protesters gathered at GPO Chowk in DI Khan and in front of the press club in Peshawar and alleged that the PTI, the ruling party in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, orchestrated a massive rigging to secure victory for its candidates in the local bodies polls. They demanded the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to declare the polls void and hold re-elections.
“The PTI conducted rigging in polls for all posts from councillor to district elections in DI Khan. PTI MPA Ali Amin Gandapur and district police officer were involved in rigging and we also have video proofs to support our stance,” a protesting candidate said.
“Injustice has been committed with us and we are standing here for our right. We will not go back from our stance even if we lost our lives,” another protesting candidate said.
