polio drive

KHAR, September 10: Unidentified militants opened fire on a polio vaccination team in Bajaur Agency, leaving a Levies soldier dead.

Administration officials say the polio team was on routine visit for polio vaccination in Dama Dola area when the gunmen opened fire on them from the fields.

A paramilitary soldier identified as Mr Nawab, who had been appointed to provide security to the team, died in the firing while the polio team escaped unhurt.

The administration launched search operation in the area after the incident and resumed the drive after suspension for some time. The three-day polio campaign has ended in the tribal areas today.
