PESHAWAR, 06 December: The third and final phase of local government elections in Punjab and Sindh has concluded the other day.
According to the preliminary unofficial results, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) topped the ladder in Punjab by winning 914 seats out of the total 2407 seats followed by independent candidates. As many 841 seats have been won by independents whereas the opposition party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf grabbed 245 seats.
In Karachi, MQM almost swept the elections by winning 100 seats in the six districts of the metropolitan city. Pakistan Peoples Party stood second with 20 seats while the PTI-JI alliance faced miserable defeat. The two parties could hardly get 20 seats.
