KOHAT: Five people, including two women, lost their lives and four others were injured when lightning fell in Kohat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday.
Local sources said lightning fell on the 1,100KV power transmission line in Kelwala area of Kohat in the morning. The power transmission line fell over the transformer due to which nearby houses caught fire. Four people died on the spot, while another person died during treatment at the hospital. The sources the dead also included two women from same family.
The sources further said the rescue personnel did not arrive at the scene of the occurrence in time and the local people retrieved the bodies and the injured and shifted them to District Headquarters Hospital Kohat. The area people said they also faced difficulties at the hospital due to lack of staff.
Rain is continuing in different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since Tuesday. Snowfall is also continuing on the mountainous areas. The current rain spell is expected to continue till tomorrow (Friday).

5 of a family killed in Nowshera firing
Five people of a family have been killed in a firing incident in Kundi Taza Din area of Pabbi in Nowshera.
The slain people include Syed Aleem Shah, his wife Hadia, sons Farman, Kashif and daughter Nida Noor. The Rescue 1122 personnel shifted the bodies to Mian Rashid Shaheed Memorial Hospital.
Police said the incident is the outcome of a family enmity. An investigation into the case has been initiated.
Meanwhile, the bodies of three labourers from Bajaur tribal district, who were shot dead in Larkana district of Sindh on Wednesday, have been sent to Bajaur.
The Bajaur Youth Jirga members were preparing to stage a protest demonstration with the arrival of the bodies. The situation in Bajaur is tense after the killings, and a protest was also held by the Bajaur Youth Jirga in Khar on Wednesday.
