CHITRAL: The Khowar-speaking literary organisations have announced boycott of the four-day Qaqlasht festival in Chitral.
The representatives of these literary organisations said the organisers of Jashn-e-Qaqlasht festival the local literary and cultural organisation in the mega event due to which they are boycotting it. Announcement to this effect was made at a meeting of representatives of seven literary societies of Khowar language at the office of the district mayor in Goldawar area on Friday.
Participants of the meeting strongly criticised the organisers of the festival for ignoring local literary organization at an event which is supposed to promote local culture, poetry and traditions. They lamented that the district administration ignored the local talent altogether in this year’s festival.
Since its inception in 2005, Qaqlast festival was being organised under local organisations and societies to promote local culture, sports, food and poetry etc. however, the district administration has taken over the organising responsibilities of this festival for the last three years.
The four-day festival kicked off at the 8,000 feet high tourist resort in Booni on Thursday.
A large number of people, tourists and students from different educational institutions are attending the event.
The festival is showcasing different sports competitions including polo, sports for the physically challenged persons, traditional food stalls, cultural show, tug-of-war, skate shooting, marathon race, volleyball, cricket, football, archery and music night. Other games like falcon prey, hockey and other activities like quiz competitions, mushaira (poetic symposium) and paragliding are other features of the festival.
