PESHAWAR, 16 November: The Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) administration on Monday sealed a hostel after a clash between the doctors and the paramedical staff over the possession of the building. According to police, seven people including three doctors were injured in the clash.
The clash, police and eyewitnesses said, erupted when a group of paramedical staff tried to get back the possession of a hostel allegedly taken by the trainee doctors. The two groups scuffled and pelted stones at each other as a result seven person including three doctors, two paramedics and two ward orderlies got injured.
The hospital administration called in police to avert the clash. Police baton charged the fighting employees and fired tear gas to disperse them.
According to LRH administration the hostel was built for the paramedics but the doctors had illegally taken possession of it.
On the other hand the doctors were of the view that the hostel was allotted to them but now the hospital management had asked them to vacate it without providing them an alternate building.
“This hostel was allotted to us. We have documented proof of it. The paramedical staff under the supervision of hospital director Laiqzada came here in the morning and started scuffling with us,” alleged Dr. Sajjad Yousafzai, a member of the doctors’ community.
He said they were severely beaten and many of their colleagues got injured during the clash.
The provincial health minister Shahram Tarakai has taken notice of the incident and sought report from the hospital director.
