PESHAWAR, 15 December: The unscheduled closure of the Lowari Tunnel has created a series of problems for the people of Chitral district, said former member National Assembly from Chitral Maulana Abduk Akbar Chitrali in a news conference here Tuesday.

“There is no announced timing of closure and opening of the tunnel,” he said and added a large number of Chitrali people including women and children were forced to wait for hours in freezing cold.

The maulana further said the 30 to 40 trucks loaded with edibles were also queued outside the tunnel as they were not granted permission for the last many days.

He said the relevant authorities had issued a schedule without consulting the local people. According to the schedule, the tunnel would be open for public only on Friday and Tuesday. He demanded amendment in the schedule and said it should be opened for public for Sunday and Wednesday so that they locals of Chitral could serve their interests on working days.
