PESHAWAR: Jamiat Ulema-e Islam (F) leader Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman on Thursday said the present government came to power through rigged elections and demanded the resignation of chief election commissioner over alleged rigging in polls.

“The present government is a sham, the prime minister and the chief ministers are a sham,” Rehman told the media.

Addressing a press conference here, he said that all political parties had expressed their reservations over rigging in the election. Maulana Fazl said that none of the political parties in opposition have accepted the result of the polls.

“There is still time for the election commission to accept its failure and the chief election commissioner to tender his resignation,” JUI-F said.

He criticized the the present government and said it did not have diplomatic manners as the government has been handed over to an ineligible lot.

JUI-F chief maintained that the current leaders do not have the ability to defend the country.

“The opposition was unanimous to face Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), however, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) refused to vote for Shehbaz Sharif at the last moment,” he said while responding to a question.
