PESHAWAR: The funeral prayers of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Sami (JUI-S) Maulana Samiul Haq will be offered at Darul Uloom Haqqania Akora Khattak at 3:00pm today (Saturday).

The body of Maulana Samiul Haq has been shifted to Akora Khattak, Nowshera from Rawalpindi.

Luqmanul Haq, nephew of Maulana Samiul Haq, said the bringing of body to Akora Khattak was delayed due to post-mortem.

Earlier, Maulana Hamidul Haq, Maulana Samiul Haq’s son, had said his father had to come back home after failing to reach protest venue due to blockage of roads in Islamabad. He said his father was taking rest at home when his driver, who was also his guard, went outside home for a little while. When the driver returned, he found Samiul Haq critically injured.

Meanwhile, the Counter Terrorism Department has also initiated investigation into Maulana Samiul Haq’s assassination. Initial investigation found that the Maulana called the security staff of the housing society at 6:40pm after he was injured by culprits with knives. When the security staff arrived at Samiul Haq’s house, he was still alive and told the staff about the attackers. The Maulana succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Sources said Maulana Samiul Haq’s personal guard and housing society’s staff have also been included in the investigation.

Meanwhile, Maulana Anwarul Haq, brother of Maulana Samiul Haq, has appealed to the students and followers to remain calm. He said protest will be held against the murder of the JUI-S chief, but no roads will be blocked.
