PESHAWAR, May 24: A seminar titled “Women’s Participation and Media Role in Local Government Elections” was held at the Peshawar Press Club.
The seminar was arranged by the Journalists Welfare, Safety and Development Foundation.
Speakers, including political leaders, civil society professionals and journalists, said on the occasion that women should participate in local government elections and lawmaking.
They said women must be given representation according to their population instead on reserved seats.
They said women should also contest for the district nazim seat. Asia Khattak of the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf told TNN, “Women can play an important role in elections as the population of women is more than men. So women should come forward to participate in lawmaking as they can resolve the issues of women in a better way.”
