MINGORA, September 15: Member of a peace committee has been shot dead in Swat district, the police say.

The peace committee member Mr Zahir Shah, who is also a teacher, was going to school at morning when unidentified gunmen ambushed him.

The government has set up peace committees in various areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA region to help the security forces fight militants with support of people. Several members of peace committees have been killed in various areas so far.

Driver killed in kidnapping bid

In separate incident, armed men shot dead driver of a doctor during a kidnapping bid in Charsadda district. The gunmen shot dead the driver Mr Stephen Shahid when he resisted during the kidnapping attempt. The gunmen later released the doctor, identified as Mr Nisar Ahmad.
