LANDIKOTAL, 24 November: Speakers at a group discussion arranged by the FATA Research Centre at Landikotal Press Club in Khyber Agency on Wednesday rejected the proposal of referendum for reforms in tribal areas and demanded merger of FATA with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and holding local bodies polls in the tribal areas.

Activists of political and religious parties, local elders, social activists and representatives of FATA youth attended the discussion.

Participants of the discussion said not a single political or religious party is opposing reforms in FATA. They said all the stakeholders, including the Ulema, want abolishment of Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR) and implementation of the FATA Reforms Committee proposals.

The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Leader Syed Maqtar Shah Afridi and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Abdur Razzaq Shinwari said the FATA people should be given their constitutional rights. They said development projects should be launched in FATA to bring it at par with other developed areas of the country.
