ISLAMABAD 12 September: Chairman Standing Committee State and Frontier Regions (Safron) Jamaluddin on Monday demanded special fund for families of those who lost their lives in landmine blasts or rendered disabled.
He said that according to an estimate there were 10,000 landmines only in Mehsood area which is matter of concern.
He said this while presiding over committee’s meeting here while taking up landmine issue in tribal areas. He demanded that landmines should be cleared from across the Fata.
He said that 50 persons have lost their lives in South Waziristan only and hundreds were rendered disabled. The committee also rejected recent recruitments in Tribal Electric Supply Company (Tesco).
Tesco officials present in the meeting said that they were strictly directed to ensure merit in recruitments. However, Minister of State Ghalib Khan Waziri said that policy made to ignore local people in jobs would be rejected and asked to recruitment locals first.
