PESHAWAR, 12 August: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM)’s members of Parliament (MPs)—both at National Assembly and Senate—and its members of the Sindh Assembly resigned en masse on Wednesday in protest against Rangers’ operation in Karachi.

After tendering their resignation in National Assembly, MQM leader Farooq Sattar told the media-persons that their party was being targeted by Rangers in the port city. The operation is aimed at paving the way for Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) by eliminating MQM, he alleged. He went on to say that MQM had demanded the constitution of an investigative committee to delve into the transparency of the swoop but to no avail. “This is why we’re resigning en bloc,” he said.

MQM has 24 seats in the National Assembly, eight in Senate and 51 in Sindh Assembly.
