PESHAWAR, 24 April: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has won the by-election on the NA-246 constituency of Karachi.
According to official results, the MQM’s Kanwar Naveed secured victory from the seat with over 95,600 votes. The Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Imran Ismail stood second with 22,800 votes, while the Jamaat-e-Islami’s Rashid Naseem got third position with 9,056 votes.
The NA-246 seat fell vacant after Nabeel Gabol of the MQM resigned from this National Assembly seat.
The MQM, PTI and JI had made strenuous preparations for the by-polls and were claiming to have support of masses in the constituency. However, the MQM had the last laugh at its traditional stronghold.
