PESHAWAR: The 9th Muharram’s mourning processions were brought out in on Saturday in a peaceful manner amid tight security amid tight security arrangements. Cellular phone network remained suspended.
The participants of procession recited Nauhas and paid tributes to the martyrs of Karbala and passed through the specified route – Saddar Road, Kalabari, Fawwara Chowk. Holding alams and beating their chests, the mourners reassembled at the Hussainia Hall in Saddar. Water tanks (Sabeel) had been arranged across the route of the procession. The police has declared routes of processions sensitive and installed extra security cameras while additional security was put in place.
The mourners gathered at the mosques where their cleric delivered sermons on the importance of the 9th Ashura Muharram and sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and other martyrs of Karbala.
The participants flagellated themselves while passing through different roads and streets of the old city. The procession concluded at the Imambargah Bibi Zikree Sahiba in the evening. The entire city was sealed and no vehicle was allowed to enter the cantonment.
