PESHAWAR, 13 October: The Inspector General of police (IGP) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Nasir Durrani has directed police to monitor Muharram processions across the province through surveillance cameras in order to foil any act of subversion.

This he said on Tuesday while presiding over a meeting of police officers in the Police Line Peshawar. Police has declared Kohat, Hangu, Dera Ismail Khan (DIK) as highly sensitive areas for Muharram processions.

He instructed the police that Muharram processions should be monitored through surveillance cameras to protect mourning processions from any untoward situation.

Durrani directed police that no one should be allowed to enter the procession without checking and all hotels and shops located close to Imam bargahs shall be closed. He also instructed police to stop Shia and Sunni Ulama  from giving hate speech against each other during Muharram to maintain peace in sensitive areas.
