KOHAT: Kohat Police has arrested three brothers on charges of killing a local football player and setting his body on fire in Gambat area.
The body of a local football player, Atifur Rehman, has been found, who was killed with a sharp-edged weapon and his body was set on fire. Police has arrested the main accused along with his two brothers.
The three accused brothers, Ubaid, Irfan and Nadeem, confessed to their crime during initial interrogation, police said. The accused told police during interrogation that the Atif was harassing Ubaid and pressurising him for establishing illicit relations with him. They said they complained about this to Atif’s family, but they did not take any action against him and he continued to harass Ubaid.
Four days ago, Ubaid called Atif and got hold of him with the help of his brothers. Police said the accused tied Atif with a rope and hit him repeatedly with a sharp-edged weapon and then slaughtered him and set his boy on fire by sprinkling petrol on it. The accused dumped the body in an empty shop and escaped.
Police arrested the three accused brothers within few hours of the incident. Police said Ubaid is a local university student who claims that he took the extreme step with the help of his brothers over increasing harassment from the deceased. The brother of the deceased has filed a case against the three brothers in Gambat Police Station.
Police has handed over the three accused to investigation team after obtaining their physical remand from the court.
Two persons shot dead
Two persons were shot dead inside a medical store in Kohat on Tuesday.
Police said unidentified armed men entered a medical store at Peshawar Chowk and opened fire, killing the owner, Irtiza Hassan, and a co-worker, Syed Mir Hassan Jan.
The assailants escaped on a motorcycle after committing the crime. The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has filed a case of the incident and initiated probe.
The local people staged a protest against the incident. The market was closed as the protesters demanded security for business community and other people in the city and punishment to the culprits.
