DARRA ADAMKHEL, September 20: A local Jirga in Darra Adamkhel has decided to expel a man and his 65 family members for his involvement in murder and theft cases, although the local residents have opposed the decision.
Local sources say that three months ago unidentified gunmen had fired shots on Mr Younas and Mr Noor group, owners of the Qasimkhel coal reserves; the firing left one person dead and three others injured. The attackers had also snatched 20 million rupees.
Later the police arrested the accused and also recovered money from them. Those arrested include Mr Abdul Wahab of Darra Adamkhel.
On 19 September, the Jirga decided to evict Mr Abdul Wahab, and his 65 relatives from the area. However, members of local tribes Zaroonkhel, Boostikhel, Sherakai, Akhurwaal, and Jawaki opposed the decision and said the verdict was against local traditions and customs.
The elders appealed the Frontier Region Kohat administration to assist the accused. The administration officials later asked the Jirga not to impose the decision.
