PESHAWAR: The anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Karachi hearing Naqeebullah Mehsud murder case on Thursday adjourned hearing of the case till July 4 after the lawyers representing Naqeeb’s father Khan Muhammad failed to appear in the court.

Former SSP Malir Rao Anwar, main accused in the murder case, told journalists outside the court that he would prove his innocence in the court as there was no evidence against him. He said he has been nominated in a wrong case. He said his phone number mentioned in the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) report was incorrect.

Naqeebullah, a shopkeeper and an aspiring model, along with three others, was shot dead allegedly by Rao Anwar and 11 of his subordinates in a fake encounter in Karachi’s Malir area on 13 January.

Naqeeb’s murder triggered massive protests which forced the government to hold an inquiry into the matter. The inquiry found that Naqeeb was innocent and not involved in any subversive activity.
