PESHAWAR, 17 March: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General Police (IGP) Nasir Khan Durrani has signed the order of leaving the charge after which he has retired from the post.
Nasir Khan Durrani was appointed police chief of KP in September, 2013. Additional Inspector General Akhtar Ali Shah has been given additional charge of IGP till the appointment of a new police chief.
Meanwhile, the federal government has sent names to the KP government for appointment of new police chief. The new names include officers from grade-21 and grade-22. According to media reports, the names of Shaukat Hayat, Inam Ghani, Akhtar Ali Shah and Commandant Liaquat Ali Khan are being considered for the post of IGP. However, sources said Akhtar Ali Shah is more likely to become the new police chief.
The KP government will send three names to the Centre for appointment of police chief among which one name will be finalised after approval of the federal government.
