PESHAWAR, August 14: The nation is observing the 68th Independence Day of Pakistan today, 14 August.
The day started with 21-gun salute in the federal and provincial capitals and people praying for the solidarity and integrity of the country at mosques.
The Prime Minister, Mr Nawaz Sharif, said in a statement last night that he would always support democracy and work for development of Pakistan.
The prime minister hoisted national flag at the Presidency in the federal capital Islamabad today morning. The participants of the ceremony observed one-minute silence in memory of those who have died in the military operation Zarb-e-Azb in North Waziristan.
National flags gave been hoisted at government and private buildings and vehicles in connection with the Independence Day. Several buildings in the provincial capital were seen illuminated on even of the Independence Day.
The Independence Day is observed with an aim to remember the sacrifices of forefathers for the creation of separate homeland for the Muslims of Subcontinent and to pledge for protection of the country’s sovereignty and integrity.
