PESHAWAR, 19 September: Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua has said there is no military solution to the Afghan issue and the problem can only be resolved through talks.
Tehmina Janjua said this in a meeting with the UA Under Secretary of State Tom Shannon in New York on Monday. Security situation in Afghanistan, the new US policy on South Asia and its possible impact on the region was discussed during the meeting. The US under secretary of state said both the countries will continue cooperation for elimination of common enemy.
Tehmina Janjua also met Afghan Deputy Foreign Minister Hekmat Karzai. Both the officials discussed matters pertaining to peace and stability in Afghanistan.
She stressed that Pakistan and Afghanistan need to strengthen engagement to bring lasting peace and stability in Afghanistan. She reaffirmed Pakistan’s desire for durable peace in Afghanistan which is important for regional stability and in Pakistan’s best interest.
