PESHAWAR: The FATA secretariat and KP Higher Education department selected non local students on seats reserved for FATA in Punjab University without advertisement, TNN has learnt.

A notification issued by Higher Education department reveals that students from Karak, Swabi, Shangla, Mansehra,Lakki Marwat, Batagram and Dera Ismael Khan were selected on seats allocated for students of merged tribal districts in Punjab University.

Talking to TNN, leaders of Tribal Youth Movement (TYM) blamed that after visiting FATA secretariat they came to know some officials in the secretariat in connivance of Higher Education Department of the province finalized the names of their relatives and blue-eyed against the 10 seats of tribal students in the said University.

“A section office at Higher Education office told us that these students were selected mistakenly and the list will be cancelled and tribal students will be selected against 10 reserved seats soon” one of the members of TYM said while quoting the official.

Contrary to past, this year the advertisement for admission on FATA reserved seats in various universities of the country was not advertised by FATA secretariat in media.

Following a protest by members of TYM for their rights in front of Governor House Peshawar last week, KP Governor Shah Farman accepted students’ demands including preservation of admission quota for tribal students in various colleges and universities across the country for ten years.

The leaders of TYM has asked the government to take actions against the officials responsible for selecting non local students on FATA seats.
