BANNU, 9 December: The internally displaced persons (IDPs) of North Waziristan Agency residing in Frontier Region (FR) Bannu are facing many hardships due to shortage of tents.

The displaced people residing in Dami Pur area of Ahmedzai Wazir tribe told TNN that the tents provided to them earlier have been damaged now due to which they are facing difficulties in harsh winter. They said the elders and children in the tents are suffering from different diseases as the old tents cannot protect them from harsh winter. They said the tents provided to the IDPs last year have been damaged in rains and windstorms.

“We urgently need the tents as our old tents have been badly damaged,” a displaced person told TNN.

Another tribesman said he could not get tent or any other relief item despite being displaced for the last one and a half years. “The tents which are in front of you have been borrowed from others. There is no facility of toilets either,” he said.

The IDPs of the area demanded the government and non-governmental organisations to provide assistance to them to save them from harsh winter.
