MIRANSHAH: The people of North Waziristan are observing a sit-in against target killings for the last four days.
The sit-in is organised by the ‘Youth of Waziristan’ on Bannu-Maranshah Road. The participants of the sit-in are demanding an end to target killings in North Waziristan and initiation of a survey to repair the houses damaged during militancy and military operations.
The tribal elders held talks with the protesters, but the participants of the sit-in insisted that they will not end the protest until they get assurance from General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division Major General Azhar Abbasi for acceptance of their demands.
The target killing incidents have witnessed increase in North Waziristan recently. On Sunday, Musa Kalim, son of former MNA late Muhammad Deendar, was shot dead inside his house by unknown armed men. A day earlier, a schoolteacher Abdul Qayyum, son of eminent religious scholar Muhammad Ishaq, was shot dead in Zerki area.
Five people have been killed in the incidents of target killings in North Waziristan during the last one month which has created fear and insecurity among the people.
