North Waziristan youths protest against construction of Kurram-Tangi Dam

MIRANSHAH, 04 March: The youths of North Waziristan Agency on Saturday staged a unique protest demonstration against the construction of Kurram-Tangi Dam. During the protest the participants danced with the doll drum beating and chanted slogans against the government.
While banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the construction of the Kurram-Tangi Dam, the protesters said that the construction of the dam would displaced thousands of tribal people. They said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor had assured them not to build the dam however, yesterday the Prime Minister laid foundation of the dam.
The protesters demanded of the government to immediately stop construction work on the dam so that displacement of thousands of tribal people could be avoided.
While to TNN a protester Saeed Ullah said that Kurram-Tangi dam is being constructed for development of some areas, but it may bring destruction for Kabalkhel tribe. He said the identity and location of the Kabalkhel tribe will erase from earth with the construction of the dam, and the tribe’s lands, schools, hospitals, graveyards and mosques will come under water. He said the construction of the dam will affect the tribe and they will face a life of displaced persons. They said they will never allow destruction of their lands and will oppose the dam’s construction.
