PESHAWAR: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has warned its officials of strict action if they were found involved in pre-poll rigging or other irregularities.
The Election Commission spokesman Chaudhry Nadeem Qasim said in an interview that if any complaint is received from any political party in this regard, the matter will be probed and action would be taken against the responsible officer. He said the ECP is fully authorised to take strict action against any official involved in irregularities.
The statement of the ECP spokesman came amid allegations of some parties that attempts are being made to rig the upcomming general elections scheduled to be held on 25 July.
After the 2013 general elections, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) staged a 126-day sit-in in Islamabad against alleged rigging in the polls. Now too, some parties, particularly the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), are making repeated complaints of possible rigging in the upcoming polls.
