SADDA, 14 September: Only 52 students out of total over 1,900 in Kurram Agency have passed the BA, BSc exams this year.

The FATA Education Department said 1,196 regular female students from Kurram Agency attended the BA, BSc exams this year out of which only 16 students passed the exams. Similarly, 724 regular male students attended the exams out of which only 36 students passed the exams.

An official of the Education Department told TNN on condition of anonymity that lack of interest by the students in their studies was the reason behind the poor results. He said most teachers of colleges in Kurram Agency belong to Kohat, Peshawar, Dera Ismail Khan and other settled areas and they remain absent from their classes even for months. The official alleged that even the 52 passed students may have attended the exam papers in their Hujras or used other unfair means to pass their papers.

Rehan Khan, a journalist from Kurram Agency, told TNN that most students in the area want to pass the exams without study. He said teachers often remain absent from their classes and there is no proper mechanism for ensuring attendance of teachers.
