JAMRUD, 21 May: An open court was arranged in Jamrud area of Khyber Agency today which was attended by Jamrud Assistant Political Agent Fahad Wazir, officers from different departments, tribal notables and a large number of other people.

The open court was arranged at the Jirga Hall where the participants apprised the officers from different departments about their problems.

The assistant political agent said on the occasion that such open courts will also be arranged in future to resolve the problems of the people.

On the other hand, parties affiliated with Khyber Political Alliance boycotted the open court complaining that they did not get ample opportunity to express their grievances. They also chanted slogans against the Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR) law.

“We were not allowed at this event to express ourselves freely. What is the use of sitting in the court when we are not allowed to express our opinion,” a political activist told TNN.

“They did not allow us to pinpoint the real problems frankly. This attitude of the officials prompted us for boycott of the event,” another activist, who boycotted the open court, said.

The political alliance leaders said setting up open courts is a good development but only the administration officials and tribal Maliks (elders) got opportunity to speak, which is injustice with the general population of tribal areas.
