PESHAWAR, 22 June: United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) António Guterres has lauded the government of Pakistan for hosting millions of Afghan refugees for the last three decades.
The UNCHR chief who is on a three-day visit to Pakistan called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad today and discussed the repatriation of Afghan refugees to their home-country.
The prime minister assured the UNHRC chief that all the Afghan refugees would be sent back to their home-country with full honour and dignity. It is worth mentioning that according to the agreement between UNHCR and Pakistan government the process of the repatriation of the registered 1.6 million Afghan refugees would start in December. Pakistan government has also decided to start registering non-registered Afghan refugees from the next month.
