PESHAWAR, August 2: The government has started working on introducing biometric system in Pakistan for sale and registration of mobile phones’ SIM cards.
A statement from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority says work on the biometric system has been started from August 1, 2014. According to this system, anyone wishing to buy mobile phone SIM will have to show his original identity card and provide other information to the franchise. Thumb impression will also be needed on biometrics machine for purchase of SIMs.
It said a customer would not be allowed to purchase more than 5 SIMs of various networks using one identity card.
