PESHAWAR: Pakistan has closed its consulate in Jalalabad city of Afghanistan in protest against undue intervention of Governor Nangarhar Hayatullah Hayat in the affairs of consulate.
According to a statement of Pakistan embassy in Kabul, the Afghan government has been informed about this development. The statement said the intervention was unfortunate and against the spirit of Vienna Convention. It added that consulate will remain closed till the security situation is reviewed.
The statement said the embassy has requested the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan to refrain from interfering in the functioning of the consulate general and to ensure restoration of the security of the consulate general.
The Afghan government has been informed that the consulate in Jalalabad will remain closed until the security arrangements are complete to the satisfaction of the embassy of Pakistan in Kabul.
