Pakistan no longer dependent on US for military needs: PM

PESHAWAR, 10 October: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has said the days of Pakistan’s dependence on the US for military and other needs have come to an end.

In an interview with the Arab News, the prime minister said any restrains or sanctions on Pakistan will degrade efforts in fight against terrorism. He said Pakistan has major US weapons systems in the military, but it also has Chinese and European systems. He said Pakistan has also inducted Russian attack helicopters for the first time recently which has ended its reliance on the US. The premier said Pakistan will have no other option but to go for another source if one source dried up.

Mr Abbasi said Pakistan don’t see any role for India in Afghanistan. He said Pakistan was fencing its western border to stop militant attacks from Afghanistan.
