PESHAWAR, 06 December: Pakistan has once again offered its assistance in resuming peace talks between Afghan government and Taliban.
“Pakistan wants peace and stability on Afghan soil. We are ready to cooperate with Afghan government is resuming peace talks with Taliban if Kabul wishes so,” special assistant to Prime Minister on foreign affairs Tariq Fatemi said in a statement.
He said the holding of “Heart of Asia” conference in Islamabad in next week is also a step towards restoring peace in Afghanistan.
“We have invited Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and Indian foreign minister to the conference but so far none of them has confirmed their participation,” Fatemi added.
Media reports suggested that Afghan President Ashraf Ghani had accepted the invitation to participate in the “Heart of Asia” conference after his meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Paris last month.
The “Heart of Asia” conference will be held in Islamabad on December 8 and the government of Pakistan has finalized all the arrangements including the agenda of conference.
