PARACHINAR, 2 December: The students of Government Post Graduate College Parachinar in Kurram Agency on Friday staged protest demonstration against stoppage of political scholarships.

The students blocked the road leading from Parachinar to Peshawar and chanted slogans in favour of their demands. They said the college students of FATA and frontier regions were getting Rs5,000 every year under the political scholarship, while the university students were getting Rs6,000, which is stopped this year by the FATA Secretariat on the pretext that there was some deficiency in the monitoring system.

The students said the scholarships were not released despite repeatedly bringing the issue into the notice of the political administration. They said the protest will continue till resolution of the issue.

“Why they government is not giving scholarship to students which is their right. FATA is also part of Pakistan and discrimination should not be done against the tribal students. We demand resumption of scholarships within a week,” Imtiaz, a protesting student, told TNN.

The protesters dispersed peacefully after the administration assured to resolve the issue on priority basis.

The political scholarship has been restored in Khyber, Bajaur, Mohmand and all the frontier regions. The FATA Secretariat says the scholarship will be resumed in the remaining tribal agencies soon
