PARACHINAR, 13: Residents of Parachinar area in Kurram Agency have complained of shortage of clean drinking.

They say water taps were installed in their homes but that the water was supplied for less than an hour daily.

They say local women have to fetch water from far-flung hilly areas. They also alleged that influential people of the area had taken control of public tube-wells and not allowing others to use them.

A local resident, Mr Ashiq, told TNN, “If water supply costs 100 rupees, we are even willing to pay 1,000 rupees for this. Authorities must solve the water issue in our area and also replace the broken water taps.”

Meanwhile, an administration official told our correspondent that the major reason behind water problem is excessive electricity loadshedding. He also said that many local people wasted water and as a result the other suffered ultimately.
