Peshawar, Nov 23: Peshawar Development Authority on Monday demolished an under construction building of the paraplegic center in Hayatabad, here after the authority found the new building was being constructed on encroached land.
According to an official of the PDA, the center was already served with a notice that the proposed construction was being carried out on encroached land.
On the other hand, officials and under treatment patients of the center staged a protest demonstration against the demolition of the building and blocked Hayatabad road for more than an hour.
The protesters were of the view that the project was duly approved by the government and that government should take action against the PDA officials for demolishing the building. “It was our longstanding demand that the center, which has at present, 70 beds capacity, should be upgraded to 120 beds. Disabled persons from as far as Sindh, Balochistan and Afghanistan come here for treatment,” an official of the center informed. Keeping in view the burden on the center, he added, it is need of the hour that the center might be upgraded as it was unable to cater the needs of the patients.
